Guns, Politics and Health

As an Integrative Physician, I have a penchant for compromise, for looking for the Middle Ground in all things. My professional and personal lives have reflected this, no doubt with mixed results, but, hey, I’m trying. It all began in grade school when I read the family’s Larousse Encyclopedia twice. I was fascinated by all branches of knowledge and human endeavor. My quest for BALANCE got turbo-charged when I saw a classmate struggle to take notes with his left hand after fracturing the right one. Fearing the same, I determined to become ambidextrous. After a painful year, I succeeded. I believe it was then that both sides of my brain began to communicate better.

The ancients knew that the male (right) and female (left) forces in the Universe needed to be BALANCED for HARMONY. They called these three forces STRENGTH, WISDOM and HARMONY/BEAUTY. Moderns also describe the latter as HOMEOSTASIS/HEALTH.

Are we BALANCED/HEALTHY as a society?

A rotund NO. Especially when it comes to mental/spiritual health. Yet, anything we try to do to fix this IMBALANCE is often labelled as socialist.

And we won’t be until we are able to see that opposing views help us find a MIDDLE GROUND. Extremes are dangerous. A bird cannot fly with only one wing. A political party that demonizes opposing views cannot be HEALTHY/BALANCED.

The most pressing issue in America now is the issue of guns and the second amendment. We cannot stand by while children and people in general are gunned down by unbalanced, unhinged terrorists.

What could we do?

Regulate gun ownership like they do in more BALANCED/ HEALTHIER countries. The devil is in the details. And HE is not HEALTHY.
