Probiotics may help slow cognitive decline

The probiotic Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG, when taken for three months, was associated with changes in the gut microbiome and improvements in cognition. The findings suggest that probiotics may help slow the progression of cognitive decline.”

Olive oil per day tied to lower risk of dying from dementia

According to CNN (7/27/23, Rogers), consuming a spoonful of olive oil on a daily basis may reduce the “risk of dying from dementia by 28%,” according to findings presented at NUTRITION. Included in the study were “nearly 60,600 women who had participated in the Nurses’ Health Study from 1990 to 2018, and nearly 32,000 men who had been in the Health Professionals’ Follow-Up Study during the same time period.” The study revealed that “over a follow-up period of 28 years, regardless of diet quality, eating more than half a tablespoon of olive oil per day was associated with a 28% lower risk of dying from dementia, compared with participants who never or rarely consumed olive oil.”
