Opioid Abuse Epidemic—it tolls for thee

You know that being addicted to smoking, alcohol, and drugs like Opioids have serious health consequences. Hopefully, you don’t have to worry about those problems. But, is it possible you may have an addiction to other substances?

Most people with a chronic health problem need to look closely to the possibility of an ADDICTION TO SUGAR. As you already know, processed sugars wreak havoc on your cell membranes, and our microbiome, both of which compromise your metabolism, and your limbic system, the part of the brain involved in addictions. If you feel you may have such an addiction, ask yourself, why are we all susceptible to addictions?

In my opinion, it is because we may be overly dependent on material things, and other people to fill a vacuum, a void in our hearts. If our upbringing leaves us feeling unloved, neglected, and burdened with low self-esteem, we are likely to turn to some material “binky” to fill that void. Shopping, sex, drugs, tobacco, and even foods soothe the wound, but never heal it.

Addiction science continues to look for some drug, or some brain intervention to change the chemistry, and energy of the limbic system to treat the problem. When we are chained to an addiction we need all the help we can get. BUT, the best results come from facing the man in the mirror. It takes a great amount of courage to do that, and massive doses of forgiveness.

Look into your heart. Get help through a counsellor, or biofeedback, or some other form of re-programming your brain. Only when we heal our wounded hearts can we overcome addictions. Then, you are very likely to address your chronic health problems by changing the toxic lifestyles often found at the root.

We would do well to reflect on the opioid epidemic by asking, For Whom the Bell Tolls—it tolls for thee.
