Followers of Integrative Health know how important cell membranes are to our health. Composed of proteins, fats and sugars, they depend on the food we eat to optimize structure and function. Cell membranes send and receive messages to/from each of the 50 trillion cells that make up our body. Nobel Prizes have been awarded for research in this area, including the 2013 Noble Prize in Physiology or Medicine; it was recently awarded to James E. Rothman, Randy W. Schekman and Thomas C. Südhof, who jointly uncovered the specific mechanisms by which vesicles — tiny, bubble-like molecules — carry messages, or Energy and Information between cells.
Remember that cells cannot function without proper fuel, or good food. So, when cell membranes TOIL, or are Toxic, Oxidized, Inflamed and have Less than optimal Mitochondrial function, cells will not be properly fuel: disease ensues. T.O.I.L. stands for the most basic mechanisms of disease. They are, in my opinion, part of the public domain.
Here is the problem:
Big Pharma and other parties have convinced regulatory agencies like the FDA that non pharmaceutical companies should not use the word “Inflammation” in their educational or marketing! Why?! Whatever lame reason they come up with is not likely to reveal the true motive behind this dastardly move: eliminate competition. No doubt they will soon claim exclusive rights to “Oxidation.”
What other words come to mind to describe INFLAMMATION, a key mechanism of disease? How about IRRITATION?
