Wishing You a Less Sweet 2022

Read this book. It’s a mix of history and how the Nazis contributed to the burial of science concerning sugar, metabolism, insulin resistance and all diseases, including cancer. You will read how the emphasis on the more sexy, lucrative genetic approach to cancer won over a simpler and more rewarding nutritional approach. It is also the story of a scientific genius scarred by an uncontrollable ego.

The only flaw I saw was that there is not a single mention of the MICROBIOME and its function in metabolism and the IMMUNO-DETOXIFICATION system.

Here are some quotes to whet your appetite:

A careful scientific examination of diet as medicine is now long overdue in oncology, and in most fields of medicinePerhaps we have been seduced by the technology of gene sequencing—by the sheer wizardry of being able to look at a cancer’s genetic code and the irresistible desire to pierce that core with targeted drugs.” Mukherjee 2018

The struggle against cancer is being undermined by the continual discovery of miscellaneous cancer agents and cancer viruses… [they obscure the] underlying phenomena stand in the way of necessary preventive measures.” Warburg 1956

Too much sugar might be the simplest explanation for the many obesity-linked cancers, but it is not a simple explanation. It is an idea built upon more than a century of science. Scientists had to figure out how fructose is converted to fat; how fat interferes with insulin signaling; how the pancreas responds by pumping out more insulin; how elevated insulin activates molecular pathways within cancer cells [thus] keeping cancers alive and well fed.” Apple, 2021

In the early 1940s, the beet sugar industry was integrated into the Nazi agenda. After sucrose was extracted from it, it left behind a brown sludge, schlempe…Heating it [formed] cyanide gas, aka Zyklon B… [used] in Nazi killing chambers… [Shlempe] was created by Dassau Works—Sugar and Chemicals.” Apple 2021
